Report: Jets sought first-round pick in Sheldon Richardson trade talks
The New York Jets were willing to trade defensive end Sheldon Richardson at the NFL trade deadline, but nothing got done. The answer was, apparently, because of the price tag.
According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, the Dallas Cowboys spoke to the Jets about Richardson, but were told that he would cost a first-round pick in either 2017 or 2018.
The Cowboys immediately dropped their interest, unwilling to pay such a steep price for a player who they weren’t sure would stay with them past next season.
Richardson is talented, but his commitment has been questioned, and that doesn’t help his case either. Between the off-field issues and the price tag, you can’t blame the Cowboys for walking away from that potential trade.
