Jets GM won’t rule out Jamal Adams trade
The New York Jets shopped Jamal Adams in trade talks before the deadline last year, and the Pro Bowl safety is reportedly looking for a new contract this offseason. The team wants to give him a new deal eventually, but it sounds like all options are on the table.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas told reporters on Monday that he plans to meet with Adams after the NFL Draft to discuss the 24-year-old’s contract situation, but Douglas also will not rule out trading Adams. He said he does not intend to trade any specific player leading into Thursday’s draft, though the GM will listen if teams call.
Douglas: No convos recently with Adams. On whether he still intends to make Adams "a Jet for Life." Nothing has changed, Douglas said. #Jets

Douglas has taken that same approach with star players since he was hired as the GM in New York. He made similar remarks about Le’Veon Bell toward the end of last season, and it seems like he views every player on the roster as having a price tag.
Adams still has two more years left on his rookie contract. He’s set to earn $3.5 million this season, and his deal contains a fifth-year option for 2021 that the Jets are going to pick up. The team could also franchise tag him in 2022, which is likely why they are reportedly in no rush to get an extension done.
The real risk with Adams seems to be the potential for him to become a malcontent. He was openly angry about the Jets shopping him at the trade deadline last season, so those feelings could come back up if Douglas dangles him to other teams again this week.
