Report: Jets have interest in Brian Hoyer
The New York Jets are reportedly interested in acquiring Brian Hoyer.
Hoyer, who is still under contract with the Texans, is likely going to be released or become available via trade now that Houston has signed Brock Osweiler. According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, the Jets are keeping an eye on the 30-year-old veteran.
Hoyer wants an opportunity to start somewhere, so the Jets’ interest in him could depend on what happens with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Cole is also reporting that New York is “holding the line” on paying Fitzpatrick, who is seeking roughly $16 million per year. The Jets seemingly have no interest in paying him anything close to that.
The Broncos could also have interest in Hoyer, as they are running out of options and are unlikely to lure their top target to Denver.
Ultimately, the Jets are hoping that Fitzpatrick will lower his asking price. The 33-year-old had the team within one game of a playoff appearance last season. He is clearly the best option.
