Jim Irsay optimistic that Colts are poised for ‘third golden era’ under Andrew Luck

Jim Irsay has very high hopes for the Indianapolis Colts.

The outspoken owner said Tuesday that he believes the team is about to go on another run of unparalleled success under quarterback Andrew Luck, reminiscent of the successes of Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning.

“Time will tell. I’m optimistic, personally. I think we have the makings of a third golden era, if you will,” Irsay said, via Kevin Bowen of the team’s official website. “There was Unitas. There was Peyton. And now it’s Andrew’s time. I believe we can get to the top of Mount Everest and plant that Colts flag.”

Irsay is bullish, and he has to be pretty confident in Luck if he’s willing to invest as much money as he has into him. Still, the Colts aren’t regarded as big-time contenders in 2016. Irsay’s optimism may have to remain muted for another year.
