Report: Jim Irsay brutally snubbed Carson Wentz after Colts’ season ended

Jim Irsay

Carson Wentz’s days with the Indianapolis Colts had been numbered before he was traded to the Washington Commanders Wednesday, and it sounds like he got a fairly firm indication of that recently.

The Colts were already preparing to move on from Wentz before the team’s late-season collapse, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. Some within the organization reportedly were left unimpressed with Wentz’s leadership skills and felt he did not command the locker room as past quarterbacks had.

Perhaps the biggest signal of how little the organization thought of Wentz came after the season.

According to Keefer, Wentz became aware of how the organization felt about him, and tried to set up a meeting with owner Jim Irsay to “clear the air.” Irsay, however, refused to meet at all, citing the fact that he was out of town. The two did speak later.

This certainly seems to back the idea that Irsay was left really unimpressed with Wentz by the end of the season. The owner’s anger over how the campaign ended has not abated, and the quarterback is clearly someone he blames for that. The Colts’ decision to trade him despite no clear replacement makes more sense now.
