Jimmy Garoppolo ‘a little frustrated’ about return from ACL injury
Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday night made his return from a torn ACL suffered last season, and his first game back did not go well.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback went 1/6 for 0 yards and an interception as his team beat the Denver Broncos 24-15 in a preseason contest. Fans were all over him over the poor game. Garoppolo admitted he needed to knock off the rust.
“It’s something I haven’t done in a year, so I’ve got to knock the rust off and everything. … It’s the first step of getting back into it,” Garoppolo said.
Garoppolo also acknowledged some frustration from the way things went.
“Obviously a little frustrated, but it’s the NFL. It’s unfortunate we don’t get to play a whole game right now. You only get so many plays. You wish you could be out there more so you could bounce back. It is what it is now and you got to take it in stride.”
This seems to be a continuation of issues Garoppolo has had. He threw five straight interceptions during a practice last week. He looked bad against the Broncos. He might need a lot more action to get rid of the rust.
The 49ers paid Garoppolo huge money based on his 5-0 record as a starter at the end of 2017. They’re hoping to start seeing some of that investment pay off.
