Report: JJ Watt out for season after back surgery
JJ Watt reportedly is out for the season after undergoing back surgery on Thursday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Watt underwent his surgery and is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says the Houston Texans knew Watt’s back injury would have kept him out for the rest of the season anyhow, which is why they elected for the surgery.
The #Texans knew JJ Watt was done for 2016. Surgery was their best choice for recovery, rather than rehab/rest. No concerns for 2017.

Watt injured himself during training over the summer and underwent an operation on his back in July. He returned in time to play the first three games of the season, but he re-injured himself during a Week 3 loss to the Patriots.
Not only is the injury a major hit to the Texans, but it’s a tough break for fans who enjoy watching greatness. Watt had racked up 76 sacks during 83 career games and had established himself as the most dominant defensive player in the game. He and the Texans will hope he returns at full strength next season.
