Joe Burrow pulls off unreal escape move vs. Chargers

Bengals QB Joe Burrow having his face mask grabbed

Joe Burrow on Sunday added an awesome new entry to his ever-growing vault of highlight plays.

Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals trailed the Los Angeles Chargers 27-20 to start the fourth quarter at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Facing 1st-and-10 at their own 29, Burrow dropped back and immediately faced pressure from a blitzing Chargers defense.

The Bengals quarterback was quickly caught between two oncoming defenders and looked dead to rights. But Burrow somehow powered through a face mask grab from Chargers safety Derwin James Jr and slipped by tackle Otito Ogbonnia to hit wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in stride for a 34-yard gain.

The slow-motion replay shows the full extent of Burrow’s gridiron trickery.

Burrow’s Houdini act eventually led to a game-tying touchdown. The Bengals star hit Chase again in another viral moment wherein he signaled his wide receiver like they were playing in the schoolyard.

But unfortunately for Bengals fans, Burrow’s heroics weren’t enough to complete the 21-point comeback. Chargers running back JK Dobbins leaped for the go-ahead TD to get his team back ahead with under 30 seconds left.

Burrow did all he could in the contest, going 28/50 for 356 yards with 3 touchdowns and several clutch throws. But two missed field goals in the fourth quarter from Cincinnati kicker Evan McPherson loomed large on the 34-27 result.
