It’s safe to say that John Harbaugh and Jaxson Dart have gotten off on the right foot.
The New York Giants head coach spoke candidly about his first meeting with Dart since taking the job in the Big Apple. In an interview held Tuesday with NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Judy Battista, Harbaugh shared that his excitement in coaching Dart goes beyond just his talent on the field.
“Past that, what excites me is who he is and what he’s about,” Harbaugh said.
“He’s about football. He loves it. He loves everything about it. He got me fired up. I was the same way. I was ready to run through a brick wall after I talked to him. It’s like my dad says — an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Let’s all be like that and see where we can go.”
Harbaugh became one of the most highly sought-after free agent coaches in recent memory the moment the Baltimore Ravens fired him. With Harbaugh having his pick of the vacant head coaching jobs, analyzing the teams’ quarterback situations was naturally a big part of his decision-making process.
Reports emerged earlier this month that Harbaugh had spent a lot of time studying film on Dart and another first-year quarterback as he weighed his options. The incoming Giants coach must have liked what he saw in Dart, who apparently possesses the same “enthusiasm unknown to mankind” that the Harbaugh family is known for.
