Johnny Manziel reportedly was late to team meeting, fined
Johnny Manziel and a few other rookies got in a little trouble earlier this week when they were late to a meeting, according to a report.
Chris Mortensen said on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” Thursday that Manziel was late to a meeting Monday morning. Mort believed Manziel and the other rookies misread the schedule. He also says Manziel was fined.
Even though Manziel was reportedly late to a meeting, the team overall supposedly has been happy with the rookie quarterback’s work ethic thus far. The issue also supposedly had no bearing on head coach Mike Pettine’s decision to start Brian Hoyer in the team’s second preseason game.
Manziel reportedly has closed the gap with Hoyer in the starting quarterback race. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Hoyer will get the nod as the team’s starter if the two end up in a tie. They have a few more preseason games left to sort out matters.
