Report: Johnny Manziel’s teammates still believe in him

Johnny Manziel tape Browns

Johnny Manziel has repeatedly admitted that he needs to take life more seriously now that he is an NFL quarterback, but the Cleveland Browns rookie has yet to put his plan into action. Has he alienated himself from his teammates as a result?

One anonymous Browns player tells TMZ that Manziel still has the support of his teammates and that “most guys on this team want him to be the one leading us next year.”

“He’s still learning, He’s still a rookie,” the player reportedly said. “He needs more time to figure out life at the next level.”

The player also said that Manziel is “not a bad teammate” and that most of the Browns players believe his flubs have been blown out of proportion by the media.

“He has to live his life. As long as next year we compete for the playoffs, guys in this locker room will support him in his maturation process. We all know his talent and we will help him on and off the field to get this thing going in the right direction.”

Here’s the bizarre thing about this report — why would you need to remain anonymous to say stuff like that? If the player was bashing Manziel, I could understand leaving his name out of it. But since when is there something wrong with throwing support behind a teammate?

Perhaps the player feels that management is not happy with Manziel, given the recent comments that were made by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam.

It’s easy to fluff off Manziel’s rookie mistakes as just that, but he needs to stop giving everyone the middle finger through social media. Another offseason and season like the one Manziel just had will result in his NFL career hanging by a thread.
