Jonathan Taylor is doing his best to avoid a stint on injured reserve as he battles back from an ankle injury.

Taylor left his Indianapolis Colts’ Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth quarter with an ankle sprain. The Colts running back had 88 yards and a touchdown before departing the game.

Taylor has been out since then and did not practice Thursday. But he did talk with the media and expressed confidence that he could beat the typical timeline for a high ankle sprain recovery.

“I know high ankles are usually 4-6 (weeks). But me, attacking different rehabs and injuries. I’m like man, ‘there’s no way.’ So I just got to do everything in my power to keep chopping it down every single day,” Taylor said.

Taylor also said that he was trying hard to avoid a stint on IR.

“I never like to throw that around … that’s definitely not a place you don’t want to be if you don’t have to be there,” Taylor said.

The 25-year-old Taylor has 349 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. He’s in his fifth NFL season and has only played a full regular season once — in 2021 when he led the NFL in attempts (332), rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18). Indianapolis is 3-3 this season and went 2-2 in the games where Taylor played.
