The Miami Dolphins intend to give quarterback Josh Rosen the opportunity to claim the starting job this season.

Rosen, acquired Friday from the Arizona Cardinals, will compete with free agent signing Ryan Fitzpatrick for the position in training camp.

The Dolphins were pretty bullish on Fitzpatrick when they signed him, even holding him up as evidence that they’re trying to win games in 2019. Now he’ll be caught up in a quarterback competition. Rosen wasn’t hugely impressive for Arizona last season, but he didn’t have a lot of weapons around him, either. It may well come down to whether Miami believes letting him sit and learn for a while will be more beneficial, but Fitzpatrick has only looked like a starting-caliber quarterback in spurts during his NFL career, too.
