Josh Shaw will reportedly appeal gambling suspension
Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw is launching an appeal of the gambling suspension he’s currently facing.
According to David Purdum of ESPN, Shaw will appeal the suspension, which will run through at least the 2020 season after he was caught betting on NFL games while on injured reserve.
The facts appear to be laid out pretty clearly in this case. The defensive back had a player’s card with Caesars, and reportedly placed a three-team parlay bet in November, which actually went against the Cardinals.
If these reports are true, it’s not entirely clear what argument Shaw plans to present to the league suggesting he deserves leniency. Those close to Shaw seem to think he made an innocent mistake and was punished harshly, but ignorance is hardly an excuse here. His actions were pretty blatant, and a clear violation of an obvious league policy. There’s not really much more to add to that.
