Justin Fields’ toe injury not considered significant

Justin Fields suffered a concerning injury during training camp practice on Thursday, but a positive update about the quarterback has since emerged.

Fields was carted to the locker room during practice with what Jets head coach Aaron Glenn later revealed was a toe injury. Glenn said it appeared that Fields had his toe stepped on, though the full extent of the injury was unclear.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the injury is not considered serious. The Jets are optimistic that Fields will be ready to start for them in Week 1.

Some relief for #Jets fans: Justin Fields’ toe injury is not significant and he shouldn’t be sidelined that long, per source. They’re hopeful that he will be ready for Week 1 against the Steelers.

Other reports indicated that Fields suffered a dislocated toe but not any type of fracture.

Considering Fields was carted to the locker room, that sounds like the best-case scenario. There were fears that he suffered a more serious injury like a torn ACL or Achilles, which would have kept him out for the entire 2025 season.

Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets this offseason. He is expected to be the team’s Week 1 starting quarterback. The 26-year-old has already drawn high praise from some of his new teammates.

After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears, Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason. The former No. 11 overall pick started six games for the Steelers while Russell Wilson was out with an injury. Pittsburgh went 4-2 in those games.

Fields finished the 2024 season with 1,106 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception. He rushed for 289 yards and another 5 scores on the ground.
