Instead of putting up high numbers on the field, Keenan Allen was apparently putting up high numbers on the breathalyzer.
The Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Allen had a ridiculously high blood alcohol content (BAC) level during his DUI arrest last month. Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that Allen tested at 0.224 at the time that he was arrested.
Allen, a six-time NFL Pro Bowler, signed a one-year deal with the Colts in August. But just hours after making his preseason debut for the team on Aug. 29., Allen was arrested on DUI charges after being pulled over around 1 AM in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. (read the full details here).
The 34-year-old Allen was formally charged this week over his arrest. He was hit with two misdemeanor charges, operating a vehicle while intoxicated (which is a Class C misdemeanor) and operating a vehicle with alcohol concentration equivalent to 0.15 or more (which is a more serious Class A misdemeanor).
For reference, the legal limit for drivers aged 21 or older in Indiana is a BAC of 0.08. But Allen, according to this latest report, was sitting at nearly three times that when he was arrested.
The Colts ultimately decided to keep Allen on the roster and have since issued strong public statements in support of him. Allen made his regular season debut for Indianapolis in Week 1 last Sunday, catching six passes for 32 total yards as the Colts lost to the Baltimore Ravens by a final score of 41-23.
