Kyle Shanahan ‘surprised’ Reuben Foster was claimed off waivers
Reuben Foster was claimed off waivers two days after being cut by the San Francisco 49ers, which left many surprised, including Kyle Shanahan.
The 49ers head coach acknowledged in comments to the media Wednesday that he was surprised someone claimed Foster.
“I was a little surprised,” Shanahan said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “I mean, not the team in particular, but that someone did. But someone did, and I saw it just like you guys did.”
The Washington Redskins are the team that claimed Foster. They did so despite Foster being arrested four times this year, twice for domestic violence.
Washington reportedly was the only team in the league to submit a claim for Foster. Their head coach Jay Gruden said Foster may not even play for the team depending on the outcome of their fact-finding mission.
Shanahan previously said the Niners cut Foster for breaking their trust.
