Lamar Jackson is sorry for going Marcus Smart on a fan during last weekend’s game.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback addressed the incident where he shoved a rival fan during Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. Jackson was celebrating a touchdown throw in the third quarter when a fan wearing a Bills jersey in the front row by the end zone pushed him in the helmet, causing Jackson to retaliate with a hard shove (video here).
On Wednesday, Jackson called for fans to keep their hands to themselves but also offered an apology to the fan that he shoved.
“Just chill next time,” Jackson said, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “You can talk trash and stuff but keep your hands to yourself.”
“It just happened,” the former NFL MVP added. “I got pushed. I’m like, what? I wasn’t even thinking about me being out there on the field. My apologies to him.”
Ravens running back Derrick Henry also had a bottle thrown at him by a different fan in the fourth quarter of the game. Unfortunately for Baltimore though, they were unable to stick it to the Buffalo fans as they embarrassingly blew a 40-25 lead in the final frame and went on to lose to the Bills by a 41-40 final score.
Meanwhile, the fan who got physical with Jackson was ejected from the stadium on the spot. He has also since received an even harsher penalty from the NFL.
Jackson added in his remarks on Wednesday that he has not heard from the league about any potential discipline for himself as well.
