Lamar Miller ‘clearly ahead’ of Knowshon Moreno?

Lamar-Miller-DolphinsKnowshon Moreno was one of the biggest steals in fantasy football last season. He was the lead back in a Peyton Manning offense, which is a position that always produces no matter who is playing it. But can the 26-year-old be nearly as productive with the Miami Dolphins?

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the early indication from OTAs and minicamp is that Lamar Miller will be the Dolphins’ starting running back.

Lamar Miller, being used more as a receiver out of the backfield, remains clearly ahead of Knowshon Moreno for the starting running back job. He had a long run for a touchdown Tuesday.

Miller appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins last season, but he split time with Daniel Thomas and rushed for just 709 yards. He does, however, have a career average of 4.2 yards per carry. Moreno racked up more than 1,500 yards and scored 13 touchdowns in 2013 but, again, he did so in Manning’s offense. Defenses tend to be so worried about defending the pass that they give up yards in bunches to rushers.

Bottom line? Miller could be poised for a breakout year. Many experts were confused last year about why Joe Philbin and the Dolphins refused to set him loose. Perhaps this is the year they do that.
