Larry Fitzgerald to Richard Sherman: I’m a washed up veteran
Larry Fitzgerald has been one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers for over a decade. However, at this stage of his career, the 32-year-old thinks he’s not worth the attention of one of the league’s best defensive backs.
The Seahawks face the Cardinals on Sunday night in a matchup of Arizona’s talent receiving corps versus Seattle’s vaunted secondary. With John Brown and Michael Floyd emerging as consistent threats to opposing defenses, Carson Palmer has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Now that the younger guys are in the spotlight more, Fitzgerald is having fun with his role as the veteran of the bunch.
“I ain’t had 1,000 yards in three years, I hope he [Richard Sherman] doesn’t follow me, (an) old grizzly washed-up veteran,” Fitzgerald said via The Arizona Republic. “He can follow Mike or Smoke (Brown).”
Fitzgerald currently leads the Cardinals in receptions (55), yards (706), and receiving touchdowns (7). While he may feel like the “washed up old veteran” it’s more than apparent he still has something left in the tank.
It may not happen, but seeing Richard Sherman and Larry Fitzgerald go at it would be fun to watch, indeed. The Seahawks are second in the NFL, allowing only 186 passing yards per game, so even if it’s not Sherman on Fitzgerald, that doesn’t necessarily mean the going will be any easier for the receiver.
