The Washington Commanders are officially down to QB3.
Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota had to exit Sunday’s NFL London Game against the Indianapolis Colts due to an ugly-looking leg injury. In the first quarter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, Mariota was sacked on a 3rd-and-goal play for Washington.
Colts defensive end Laiatu Latu rolled up on Mariota as he was making the sack, and Mariota’s leg was caught awkwardly underneath Latu as a result. Here is the video.

Mariota would limp off the field and ultimately exited the game for the Commanders. Third-string QB Athan Kaliakmanis, a seventh-round rookie, entered as a result and finished out the half as Washington went into the break trailing Indianapolis 10-6.
The former Heisman Trophy winner Mariota got the start on Sunday with Commanders starting quarterback Jayden Daniels still out due to an elbow injury. But Mariota himself ended up getting injured just a few minutes into the game, seemingly suffering an unpleasant-looking ankle and/or knee injury.
Adding to the concern for Mariota is that he has a history of knee issues. But a silver lining for Washington may be that Daniels appears to have a chance to return as soon as Week 5.
