Former Packers kicker Mason Crosby lands starting gig with new NFC team
At 39 years old, Mason Crosby is officially a starting kicker again.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Friday that the New York Giants are signing Crosby to their practice squad. Crosby will be elevated to the active roster in short order and will kick for them during Christmas Day against the Philadelphia Eagles, Garafolo adds.
The move comes with the Giants in very dire straits at the kicker position. Graham Gano opened the year as the starter but landed on injured reserve in early November with a knee injury. Randy Bullock was then tabbed as the replacement, but he too is now on IR with a hamstring issue. Cade York was expected to be the next man up … but he reportedly aggravated a leg injury in practice this week and is going on practice-squad IR himself.
Crosby, who is now the Plan D for the Giants, spent 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, won Super Bowl XLV with them as the starting kicker, and left the franchise after the 2022 season as their all-time leading scorer. While Crosby has yet to appear in game during the 2023 campaign, he was recently on the practice squad of a different NFC team and will now serve as the emergency pivot for the 5-9 Giants.
