Matt Nagy expecting major progress from Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky

The Chicago Bears have gone out of their way to ensure that quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has to fight for his job in 2020, and coach Matt Nagy is expecting that to pay dividends.

Nagy appeared on WSCR 670 AM’s Bears All-Access show Thursday and said Trubisky has been motivated by the addition of Nick Foles.

“It’s going to be a good situation for us, and when we talked with Mitch, the excitement and determination and fire he had at knowing that this is going to be an open competition, that’s who he is,” Nagy said, via Larry Mayer of the team’s official website.

Nagy added that he “absolutely” expects Trubisky to take a big step forward in his third NFL season.

Trubisky and Foles have been promised an “open competition” for the starting quarterback job. Trubisky is going to have to take a step forward, or he might be on his way out of the organization. If Foles wins the job, it’s tough to see the Bears keeping him around much longer.
