Mike McCarthy will reportedly interview for Jets’ job

Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy is expected to be one of the most coveted head coaching candidates among NFL teams this offseason, and the New York Jets appear to be among the teams who have interest in hiring him.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, McCarthy is scheduled to meet with the Jets in the coming days and may be intrigued by the possibility of working with 2018 first-round pick Sam Darnold.

The fact that McCarthy is taking the interview is noteworthy for two reasons. For starters, he reportedly turned down a substantial offer from the Arizona Cardinals that would have given him control over player personnel. There have also been rumblings that McCarthy is considering taking a year off after he was fired by the Packers, so the fact that he is interviewing means that is not set in stone.

It seems like the Jets want to hire a big name now that they have moved on from Todd Bowles, and a lot has been made of their interest in Jim Harbaugh. Like Harbaugh, McCarthy would likely have his pick of a few jobs if he decides to coach in the NFL next season.
