Mike McCarthy could reportedly take year off from coaching
Former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy will likely have the opportunity to return to coaching in 2019, but he may not take it.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, McCarthy is already receiving interest from teams that are considering a coaching change, and the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals could both make sense as teams that may target him.
However, McCarthy may choose to ignore that interest and sit out a year. He has one year remaining on the contract he signed with Green Bay, and there is some belief that he could reassess the job market next year after taking 2019 off.
There has been a lot of speculation linking McCarthy to the Browns in particular. However, there doesn’t seem to be much urgency on his part to find a new home, and a year away might actually help his reputation.
