Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey may have been one of the last people outside of prison walls to speak with Aaron Hernandez before the former NFL star took his own life.
Shortly after news broke on Wednesday morning that Hernandez had committed suicide, Pouncey took to Instagram to express his affection for Hernandez. He also mentioned that he spoke with his former Florida Gators teammate on Tuesday.
“To my friend my brother! Through thick and thin right or wrong we never left each other’s side,” Pouncey wrote. “Today my heart hurts as I got the worse news I could have imagined. It was just a day ago we shared our last convo. I will forever miss you and love you bro. we will meet again rest easy!”
Pouncey and his brother, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, were two of Hernandez’s closest friends. The Pouncey brothers were criticized several years ago for wearing hats supporting Hernandez (photo here) before the ex-New England Patriot was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd.
