Muhammad Wilkerson arrested for DWI, marijuana possession

Muhammad Wilkerson is coming off a major injury and was already going to have trouble drumming up offers from teams this offseason, but the free agent defensive end’s latest run-in with the law will make that even more difficult.

Wilkerson was arrested in New Jersey early Monday morning and charged with driving while under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to multiple reports. The passenger in Wilkerson’s car, 28-year-old Jihad Ballard, was also arrested on the same drug charges. The two were released and will have an upcoming court date.

Wilkerson spent the 2018 season with the Green Bay Packers, but he suffered a serious ankle injury early in the year and appeared in just three games. The former first-round pick spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New York Jets.

This is not Wilkerson’s first arrest, as he was also arrested last June for driving while under the influence in New York City. Wilkerson failed a breathalyzer test and told police at the time that he had “one shot and two beers.”

Wilkerson was released by the Jets last offseason after he became something of a headache for the organization. He had just eight sacks in his final two seasons with New York after recording a career-high 12 sacks in 2015.
