New Orleans newspaper takes aim at refs for robbing Saints of win
It is going to take the New Orleans Saints and their fans a very long time to get over the way the officials robbed them of a Super Bowl appearance on Sunday, and no one understands that better than members of the local media.
On Monday morning, The Times-Picayune pulled no punches while blasting the NFL for handing the Los Angeles Rams a win in the NFC Championship Game. Here’s a look at the newspaper’s front page:

By now you have probably seen the play. The officials missed a blatant pass interference call in addition to helmet-to-helmet contact on a play that should have set the Saints up with 1st-and-goal and a chance to bleed most of the clock out before kicking a game-winning field goal. The NFL immediately admitted to Saints head coach Sean Payton that a flag should have been thrown, and there has been talk of the league issuing a public apology.
No matter what theory Rams players have about why they won the game, it’s hard to argue that the Saints weren’t cheated. Missed calls are a part of the game, but rarely do we ever see one as egregious and impactful as the one that ended the Saints’ season.
