Report: NFL warned Tom Coughlin over voluntary workout criticism

The NFL sent a letter to Jacksonville Jaguars vice president Tom Coughlin over his recent criticism of players who did not attend voluntary workouts.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Michael DiRocco, the NFL sent the letter after the NFLPA requested they do so to remind Coughlin and the Jaguars of the rule against pressuring players to attend voluntary workouts.

Coughlin was not fined over his recent comments, but the letter warned that the Jaguars could face financial punishment or even loss of practice days for future comments.

Though Jacksonville’s workouts are voluntary, Coughlin recently criticized the two players who opted against attending them. That sparked a response from the agent of one of those players, as well as widespread criticism from fans and observers as well.
