The Houston Texans have an injury to worry about heading into their Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, with wide receiver Nico Collins suffering an injury during Wednesday’s practice, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Collins was a limited participant in Houston’s practice on Wednesday with a hamstring issue, and while doctors “don’t believe it’s serious,” his outlook for the Bengals game is said to be in “jeopardy,” added Schefter.
The 27-year-old Collins is a major piece of the Texans’ CJ Stroud-led passing attack.
In Week 1’s 36-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, the two-time Pro Bowler Collins led his team with 75 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven catches and 10 targets.
It won’t be ideal for the Texans to lose their best downfield weapon, especially in a game where they are trying to avoid a 0-2 start to the season.
Collins has been a consistent producer for Houston over the last few years. In the previous three seasons, he amassed 3,420 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 219 receptions and 328 targets.
The Texans still have days to observe Collins’ hamstring. If anything, his practice designation for Thursday and Friday could tell a lot about his chances to see action against the Bengals at Reliant Stadium.
Wide receiver Jaylin Noel and tight end Dalton Schultz could see an uptick in targets if Collins is ultimately ruled out for Week 2.
