Injuries continue to mount for the San Francisco 49ers, particularly in their wide receiver room.
Mike Evans added to the Niners’ woes on that front when he left Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., in the fourth quarter with an apparent hip injury.
However, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan implied after his team’s 35-13 win over the Dolphins that Evans’ injury wasn’t something to be overly concerned about.
“It can always change tomorrow,” Shanahan said about the veteran wideout’s status, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “But if the game was different, he would’ve been able to come back in.”
San Francisco had a cakewalk against the Dolphins, so the 49ers had no urgent need to force Evans back into action. Before he left the game, he caught all three targets for 54 receiving yards.
More worrisome for the 49ers is the ankle sprain wide receiver Demarcus Robinson suffered in the second quarter. Already without De’Zhaun Stribling, Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk due to injuries, San Francisco concluded the Dolphins game with just Deebo Samuel, Jacob Cowing and KhaDarel Hodge as their only healthy wide receivers.
But given Shanahan’s update on Evans, the six-time Pro Bowler can be expected back on the field in Week 3’s showdown against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.
