Packers reportedly on verge of hiring Matt LaFleur as head coach

The Green Bay Packers may be the first team to fill their head coaching vacancy this offseason, as they are said to be closing in on a deal with Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky report that the Packers are on the verge of naming LaFleur their coach and have begun informing other candidates that they have concluded their search.

LaFleur is in his first season with the Titans, and he was the OC for the Los Angeles Rams under Sean McVay last year. He spent two seasons as a quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons prior to that.

At 39, LaFleur would be yet another young, offensive-minded coach to land a head coaching job in the NFL. He was a candidate for the Titans’ job before the team went with Mike Vrabel last year, and he has been viewed as one of the top candidates available.

While Packers fans may have preferred some of the bigger names that had been linked to the team, Green Bay’s brass must be confident in LaFleur’s ability to get the job done given how quickly they are moving to hire him.
