Report: Packers could try to trade for Seahawks GM John Schneider

The Green Bay Packers are prepared to make a splash in their search for a new general manager.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers requested but were denied permission to speak to Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider about their own open position. Undeterred, Green Bay may attempt to trade for Schneider, or even argue that the move would be a promotion, with Schneider no longer having to share personnel duties with coach Pete Carroll.

Schneider started his career with Green Bay and is a Wisconsin native. He is seen as the favored choice by many already with the Packers, including head coach Mike McCarthy. Schneider himself would reportedly be very interested in the job.

While the Packers may not be done with their Schneider pursuit, it is unknown what their willingness is to part with resources to hire him, or what those resources would be.

There’s a lot riding on the Green Bay GM hire, as whoever it is may have a big impact on the coach’s future. Schneider would certainly be a big splash.
