Report: Pat Shurmur is ‘strong candidate’ for Broncos OC job
The Denver Broncos are in the market for a new offensive coordinator, and may already be locking in on a pretty big name.
The Broncos fired offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello on Sunday after just one year in the job. According to Ian Rapoport, former New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur is a “strong candidate” to replace him on coach Vic Fangio’s staff.
One strong candidate for the #Broncos vacant offensive coordinator job is Pat Shurmur, I’m told. He has plenty of interest around the league and would be a big-time hire for Vic Fangio. A rare veteran play-caller available, Shurmur would make sense for all parties.

It sounds like Shurmur will have plenty of options, but the Broncos would be a very appealing one. He’d have a young quarterback in Drew Lock, and with Fangio handling a sturdy defense, it seems like a franchise that could quickly be turned around. Denver was 28th in scoring last season, and Shurmur would be charged with turning that around. If he could do so, a return to the playoffs would certainly be possible.
