Tom Brady figures to have a major role in the hiring of a new head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, and he might turn to someone familiar when making the hire.
Chatter around the league suggests Brady could be interested in bringing Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores in to coach the Raiders, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Longtime Patriots assistant Brian Daboll, formerly head coach of the New York Giants, has also been listed as an offensive coordinator possibility.
Flores was New England’s defensive coordinator from 2016 to 2018, so Brady has plenty of familiarity with him. Flores does have ongoing litigation against the NFL, but that might not be something the Raiders have any concerns about.
Flores’ contract with the Vikings expires at the end of the season. There have been rumors that he may jump ship for a different defensive coordinator job, but he could also receive some head coaching interest. He went 24-25 in three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, but alienated some players with his style of coaching.
The Raiders are expected to fire head coach Pete Carroll after just one season. They do not have a great roster core right now, but they would land the No. 1 overall pick with a loss on Sunday.
