Abdul Carter may have been shut down by one New York Giants legend when searching for a uniform number, but another is much more willing to accommodate him.
Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms made it clear he would allow Carter to wear his retired No. 11 if Carter wished to. The Giants’ first-round pick wore the number at Penn State.
In an appearance on FanDuel TV, Simms made clear he had no objection to Carter possibly wearing his number, even though some around him are not on board with his stance.
“I’d let him have it in a second. Can you just help it a little and make it better?” Simms said. “I think it would be a lot of fun. It wouldn’t bother me.
“My agent [said], ‘Don’t you dare give up that jersey number.’ I don’t know if Abdul Carter’s going to ask for it. If he would, if it was up to me, I’d probably give it to him.”
If Abdul Carter or Jaxson Dart request it…

Will the Giants #11 jersey stay retired? 🤔@TheCousinSal @PhilSimmsQB | #NYGiants pic.twitter.com/CZzbl3k6Ef
Carter seemed interested in the possibility, posting on social media that it would be an “honor” to wear No. 11.

The Giants have not announced a jersey number for Carter yet. The No. 3 overall pick expressed an interest in wearing Lawrence Taylor’s No. 56, but Taylor shut that down pretty quickly.
Simms is following in the footsteps of another iconic quarterback with this potential move. We will see if Carter decides to take him up on the offer.
