The Los Angeles Rams have been busy looking for new coaches to add to their staff and have found two coordinators.
Sean McVay will be hiring Kevin O’Connell as the team’s new offensive coordinator. He also will be hiring Brandon Staley as his new defensive coordinator. Both hires were reported by Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
The Rams let Wade Phillips go after the season and were looking for a new defensive coordinator. Staley coached in the college ranks from 2006-2016. He then joined the Chicago Bears coaching outside linebackers under Vic Fangio. He moved with Fangio to the Broncos for the 2019 season.
This represents a big promotion for Staley, 38, who was with John Carroll University as recently as 2016.
O’Connell, 34, played in the NFL as a quarterback from 2008-2012. He’s been a coach since then, often serving as a quarterbacks coach. This season he was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins — McVay’s former team.
The Rams have operated without an offensive coordinator the last two seasons since losing Matt LaFleur to the Titans.
