As they look for a replacement for the now-exiled Brett Maher, the Los Angeles Rams could be picking up a kicker with some hardware.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Wednesday that the Rams are working out a group of kickers this week, the most notable of which is the 39-year-old Mason Crosby. A lifelong Green Bay Packer, Crosby has been unsigned to this point after his contract with the Packers expired following the 2022 season.

Crosby certainly has the experience. He was Green Bay’s starting kicker for 16 seasons from 2007-22, including on their Super Bowl XLV-winning team in 2011. Crosby led the NFL in scoring in 2007 and ranks 13th all-time with 395 made field goals.

The 3-4 Rams need a new kicker since they just booted their former starter Maher after his disastrous performance in Week 7. They just signed 24-year-old Lucas Havrisik from the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad, but Havrisik has yet to appear in a single NFL contest. Crosby stock sank in recent years after he began struggling on routine kicks for the Packers. But the Rams are taking a look to see if Crosby is better than any of their current options.
