Randy Gregory could reportedly be suspended for relapse

Randy Gregory

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory recently met with an NFL doctor and was ruled eligible to play in Week 1, but he may be in trouble going forward.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Gregory suffered a relapse last month and is once again under investigation for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. A ruling could come as early as this week, and the former Nebraska star may wind up suspended again.

There was a belief the NFL would make a ruling on Gregory prior to Week 1, but league officials are still reviewing the case and taking the steps Gregory has made since his relapse into consideration. As Schefter notes, the NFL has made an effort recently to focus on treatment and recovery rather than disciplinary action, though Gregory is a repeat offender.

Gregory has violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy multiple times and was suspended for the entire 2017 season. His history of getting into trouble off the field dates back to before the Cowboys drafted him in the second round.
