Redskins release statement addressing reports about Alex Smith’s recovery
Alex Smith is reportedly dealing with some complications from the surgery he underwent to repair a compound fracture in his leg, but the Washington Redskins are asking that people respect the quarterback’s privacy.
Not long after reports surfaced claiming Smith is battling a serious infection related to his surgical procedure, the Redskins released the following statement:

It’s probably too early for speculation about whether Smith will be able to play football again, but it certainly sounds like his recovery is not off to the best start.
We knew how serious Smith’s leg injury was when Adam Schefter revealed some horrific details about it, and infection is always a risk when undergoing surgery. Tom Brady dealt with a staph infection when he underwent knee surgery in 2008, and he obviously bounced back. Hopefully the same will be true for Smith.
