Report: JJ Watt re-injures back, facing extended absence
After having back surgery earlier this year, there was speculation whether J.J. Watt would be ready to start the season. He was cleared to play in Week 1, but could now be facing an extended absence.
As reported by Ian Rapoport, Watt has re-injured his back and is potentially facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

#Texans are trying to learn more about JJ Watt’s back, which likely was injured vs. the #Patriots. Massive blow to their defense either way.

The #Texans have not addressed the JJ Watt injury. They will tomorrow, likely placing him on Injured Reserve, then hoping he can return.

It was initially thought Watt may miss the first two games of the season. However, he has participated in each of the Texans’ games thus far after fearing the worst during the rehab process. Watt has recorded eight tackles and 1.5 sacks through the first three games.
It goes without saying the loss of a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and two-time sack leader would greatly impact Houston’s defense. The Texans are currently fifth in the NFL with just 277 total yards per game allowed and lead the league in surrendering just 151.3 passing yards per game.
