Sammy Watkins will not play Sunday due to continued pain in his surgically repaired left foot, and the Buffalo Bills admit that it could be a big problem going forward.
Coach Rex Ryan admitted that the continued soreness in Watkins’s foot is becoming a serious issue.
“I don’t know if fear is the right word, but major concern,” Ryan said of Watkins’s foot, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.
“I don’t mind doing this every week,” Ryan added Friday of assessing Watkins’s status. “If Sammy can play, then obviously we want him out there. But if this is something that is hurting this young man in any way, shape or form, then absolutely I don’t want him out there.”
It likely doesn’t help that Watkins is taking some physical abuse in practice. It sounds like this is just going to be an issue of pain management he’ll be dealing with for a while, and it remains to be seen if he can.
