One of the reasons it was somewhat surprising that the San Francisco 49ers gave Richard Sherman a three-year, $39 million contract is that the star cornerback is coming off a major injury, but apparently his rehab is progressing nicely.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sherman is expected to be ready for training camp after a torn Achilles ended his 2017 season early.
Even coming off a torn Achilles, Richard Sherman and the 49ers both still expect that he will be ready for training camp this summer, per sources.

Sherman recently underwent a second surgery on his Achilles, but he said that was a minor procedure to remove bone spurs that have been bothering him for years. The way his contract is structured indicates he is confident he can still play at a high level.
Interesting. Just $7M in base salary. $6M more in incentives. Sherman is betting on himself in a big way. $16M in base for 2019 & ‘20 becomes guaranteed if he’s All-Pro. Another option would’ve been signing a 1-year & be a free agent again in 2019. Will watch this play out. https://t.co/hBMjRajtX8

We know Sherman feels he has plenty left in the tank based on the tweet he sent after the Seahawks released him. Judging by the contract they gave him, it seems like the 49ers agree.
