The Dallas Cowboys are going to give it another go with wide receiver George Pickens.
Following an impressive 2025 NFL season with the Cowboys, Pickens is expected to be franchise tagged by Dallas, according to several reports.
The franchise tag for Pickens is said to be worth “roughly $28 million,” as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Saturday.
While it’s not the multi-year extension Pickens would have loved more, it gives the two sides more time to negotiate.
The Cowboys can’t apply the tag to the former Georgia Bulldogs star wide receiver until at least after Feb. 17, per Schefter, but the decision has indeed been made on his short-term outlook with Jerry Jones’ franchise.
Traded to Dallas by the Pittsburgh Steelers in May 2025 along with a sixth-rounder in 2027 for a 2026 third-rounder and 2027 fifth-rounder, Pickens immediately made an impact on the Cowboys’ offense.
In the 2025 campaign, the 24-year-old Pickens posted career-highs of 1,429 receiving yards, 9 touchdowns and 93 receptions on 137 targets, while operating in the Dak Prescott-led passing attack.
He seemed to be a great fit in Dallas, and the Cowboys will get another look at him in the 2026 season, as they aim to bounce back after missing the NFL playoffs for the second year in a row and winning just seven games in 2025.
