Report: Rift in Dolphins organization over Ryan Tannehill

Ryan-Tannehill

The coaching staff and front office are at odds over how they view Ryan Tannehill’s future, according to a report.

The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero looked into how the organization views Tannehill, and what he found was two differing views. Dolphins coaches believe Tannehill is a game manager who isn’t going to put the team on his back, but simply make the plays he needs to make. The team’s front office, however, views Tannehill as a franchise quarterback, believing that he can be one of the top ten signal callers in the league.

Among the quarterbacks the Dolphins front office prefer Tannehill to long-term are Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Phillip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Cam Newton, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles. Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, and Ben Roethlisberger are also cited.

Some of those names seem absurd, Newton’s in particular, but Miami’s front office clearly believes Tannehill can be a top-tier quarterback.

The coaching staff, however, continues to limit Tannehill’s control of the offense. The audibles he can call are limited as well. The coaching staff says this is so Tannehill doesn’t have to think much and can focus on playing fast.

Whatever the case, the Dolphins organization is not on the same page when it comes to Tannehill. They’re certainly paying him like a franchise quarterback, though.
