Rob Gronkowski shares what he thinks Tom Brady should do in free agency

Rob Gronkowski

Tom Brady has a major decision to make on his future this offseason, and many people are weighing in on it — including some who know him quite well.

One of them is former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Gronk said he hadn’t spoken to his former quarterback specifically about his decision, but he thinks Brady should explore his options as he heads toward free agency at the age of 42.

“I truly believe he deserves the opportunity to go explore and see what’s out there,” Gronkowski said at a FOX Sports media event Tuesday, via Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk. “He’s been playing for so long, and just the way he’s been playing and the level he’s been playing at, he definitely deserves an opportunity to go out there and test the market. I mean, why wouldn’t you? You’ve never done it before in your career, and he’s going to be a free agent for the first time ever. So good for him. Go test out the market and then do what’s best for himself. That’s the decision he has to make is what’s best for himself; what’s best for his family; what he feels like he’s going to love. That’s all up to Tom. He’s a grown man, and he’ll be able to make that decision on his own.”

There’s still a huge lack of clarity about Brady’s future, but it feels for the first time like he might actually leave the Patriots, or at least give it a lot of thought. There’s plenty of evidence that the Patriots want to keep him, but the final decision will lie with the quarterback himself.
