Robert Griffin III and Josh Gordon were teammates at Baylor, and now they could be again with Griffin joining the Cleveland Browns. Gordon, however, needs to get his life in order if he wants to play football again, and Griffin is rooting for him to get himself straightened out.
Griffin considers Gordon “family” and talked about the receiver’s struggles.
“He knows I’m always there for him no matter what happens, but I’m rooting for him,” Griffin said Thursday, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. “I hope he understands the situation that he’s in and what’s at stake, and I think he does. But it’s up to him ultimately to make that decision.
“You cannot tell a grown man what to do. All you can do is be there for him and try to help guide him. So I’ve been there for him, will continue to be there for him, and I hope he makes the right decisions so he can get back in the league and show everybody what he’s really made of.”
Gordon’s application for reinstatement was recently denied by the league, but he can try again on August 1. Reinstatement may not be a sure thing given his reported recent behavior, but it hasn’t scared off a number of NFL teams.
