Rodney Harrison had some harsh criticism for Andy Reid after the Kansas City Chiefs blew Saturday’s playoff game to the Tennessee Titans.
The Chiefs were up 21-3 at halftime over the Titans, but they got shutout in the second half and lost 22-21. While providing commentary for NBC after the game, Harrison nearly called for Reid’s job.
“No excuse for Andy Reid to lose this game. If they want to win a Super Bowl, I don’t think Andy Reid’s the right guy to lead them to it,” Harrison said.
That’s really harsh, though not the first time Harrison has had strong words for the Chiefs.
Reid certainly deserves plenty of criticism for blowing the big lead, but things should be placed into context. Reid is an extremely successful coach who turned the Chiefs into a consistent the minute he took the job. He’s taken this team as far as they probably could go under Alex Smith. If they turn the page to Patrick Mahomes, they might have a shot at making deeper playoff runs.
