The New York Jets begin training camp on Thursday, and it appears Geno Smith will still be the favorite to win the starting quarterback job at that point.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that if the Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick are going to reach an agreement, it is unlikely to come before the start of camp.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets remain locked in one of the longest games of chicken we have ever seen. Both sides have been planting information in an attempt to get the upper hand in negotiations, but it seems like next to nothing has been accomplished.
The Jets freed up cap space when they signed defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to a long-term contract, and some believe they will use that money to sign Fitzpatrick. However, reports like the one we heard about Fitzpatrick’s living situation have Jets fans worried that the quarterback who led them to a 10-6 record last season will not be back.
