Ryan Mathews out for season with back injury
Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews left Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants with what was referred to at the time as a “stinger,” but it turns out the injury was much more serious.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson announced on Friday that Mathews has a herniated disk in his back and will not play in the final game of the season next week.

Mathews, who battled a knee injury earlier in the year, has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career. He missed three games last season due to injury and played in just six games with the San Diego Chargers the year before that.
Prior to hurting his back, Mathews was the Eagles’ leading rusher with 661 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
